Multiple Eudora Lights
(Windows 95)

Eudora Light is freeware mail program from Qualcomm.

If you are using Netscape 2.0 or 3.0, you can follow the instructions below to install and use Eudora Light for any additional e-mail addresses.

While Eudora Light does not support multiple users, you can install multiple copies of the program (using the instructions below) and configure each one to check a seperate username.

1. If you don't have just the Eudora installer program from somewhere else, check the following:

2. If you're not already in Windows Explorer, from the main Windows screen, go to Start--Programs--Windows Explorer.

3. Under the C: drive on the left-hand side, go down to the TMP directory (or the directory where you have the Eudora install program) and click on it once to highlight it.

4. On the right-hand side, you should see the file "eudor154.exe" or "eudor154". Double click on it.

5. A black DOS window should pop up and a list of files should appear. When the title of the window says "Finished", close the DOS window and you should be back at the Windwos Explorer window.

6. Hit the F5 key on the keyboard.

7. A list of files should appear along with the eudor154 program. One of those files should be "setup.exe" or "setup" with the picture of a computer beside it--double click on it.

8. After the install program loads, you should see a window welcoming you to the Eudora Light setup program. Click on Next.

9. The next window asks into what directory do you want to install the program. The default value is C:\Eudora. Since you're going to be installing multiple copies of the program, you'll need to install them into different directories. The easiest way to do that is to tack on the person's initials to the end of the directory name. To do that:

  1. Click on Browse
  2. A new window should appear with the line in the Path box highlighted. Hit the End key on the keyboard (it's to the right of the Enter key).
  3. You should now have a cursor at the end of the Path line. In there just type the two or three initials for the specific person who will be using this copy.
For example, if the person who will be using this copy is named John Q. Public, you can tack on jp or jqp to the end of the directory name so that the program gets installed to the directory C:\Eudorajp or C:\Eudorajqp.
  4. Click on Ok.
  5. A window will probably pop up saying that that directory doesn't exist and if you want to create it. Click on Yes.
10. Click on Next.

11. A window pops up asking which version you want to install. Make sure that Eudora Light for Windows 95 is selected. Click on Next.

12. A window pops up displaying which program will be installed and to where it will be installed. Click on Next.

13. The setup program then installs the files. After it finishes, a window pops up asking if you want to view the README. If you click on Yes it brings up the Eudora Readme file in Notepad. There's nothing in there that's really needed (it's primarily installing instructions, which you've just done, and system requirement, which you should meet if you're already using StarNet). Clicking on No will exit the installer.

14. You should be back in Windows Explorer. Go ahead and close that.

15. From the main Windows screen, go to Start--Settings--Taskbar.

16. The Taskbar properties window should come up. Click on the Start Menu Items tab.

17. Click on the Advanced button.

18. A window like Windows Explorer should come up. On the left-hand side, click once on the Programs folder.

19. On the right-hand side you should see an icon for Eudora. Highlight it and go to File--Rename.

20. The name of the Eudora icon should be highlighted in blue. Here you can change the name of the icon. For example, lets say the person using it will be John Q. Public again. You could change the name to John's Eudora, John's Mail, JQP's Mail, or whatever you want to differentiate it from the others that will be installed.

21. Close this window and go to Start--Programs. The Eudora icon should appear near the bottom with the name you just gave. it. Click on it.

22. When Eudora starts, the settings window pops up. Here is where you setup the program for a particular person. Click here for the page on setting up Eudora.

23. You'll need to run the setup program for each mail address. Make sure you install each into a different directory.
