Netscape Communicator Profiles
(Windows 3.1)


Netscape Communicator allows you to set up "profiles" for different users. Each user/profile has its own mail settings, bookmarks, address book, homepage, and other settings.

When you start Communicator and there is more than one profile, it will bring up a window where you select which profile to use. Profiles are not password protected. Anyone can access any profile.


1. You need to exit out of Communicator.

2. In Program Manager, double click on the Communicator Program group. In there is the User Profile Manager. Double click on it and you should see a window like the one below.

3. Click on New. A window explaining profiles should appear.

4. Click on Next. The window should change to one like the image below.

Email Address

5. In there are the following settings:

Full Name
should be your name, but could be anything. Whatever is in here will go out with your username.

Email Address

should be username@azstarnet.com (where username is your username--the three to seven letter name you selected when the account was started).

6. Click on Next. The window should change to one like the image below.

Profile Name

7. In there are settings for the profile name. The profile name should be the same as the username.

8. Click on Next. The window should change to one like the image below.

Mail Account

9. In there it asks for the following:

Your name
should be carried over from what you entered earlier

Email Address

should be carried over from what you entered earlier

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server

should be smtp.azstarnet.com

10. Click on Next. The window should change to one like the image below.

Outgoing Mail

11. In there are the following settings:

Mail server user name
should be your username--the three to seven letter name you selected when you set up the account. It must be entered in all lower case letters, without the capital "P" and without the "@azstarnet.com".

Incoming Mail Server

should be pop.azstarnet.com

Mail Server type

should be set to "POP3 (messages and folders are kept locally..)"

12. Click on Next. The window should change to one like the image below.

News Server

13. In there are the following settings:

News (NNTP) server
should be news.azstarnet.com

Port

should be left at 119

Secure

should be unchecked

14. Click on Finish. Coummunicator should now automatically start with the profile you just created.

15. By default, Communicator will set the homepage (the page which loads when Communicator is launced) to Netscape's site. If you want to set it to StarNet's homepage, continue with the instructions below. Otherwsie, you are done.

16. Go to Edit--Preferences. A window will appear. The right side should look like the image below.

17. Under the Home Page section is the Location box. Delete what is in there and replace it with www.azstarnet.com/dnews

18. Click on OK. You should be set.

Note: If there is more than one profile for Communicator, it will bring up a box like the one below each time you launch Communicator. Just select the name of the profile you want to use.
