Setting Up TCP/IP

1. Go to the Apple icon in the upper left corner and go down to Control Panels. In the list of control panels, select TCP/IP. A window like the one below should appear.

TCP/IP

2. Click on the triangle pointing down in the "Connect via" window.

Note: If you see AOL Link in the list, that means you have America Online's version 3.0 or later installed. This extension conflicts with any other dialers (like the one used by Internet Providers like StarNet), even if it's not selected.

If you do use America Online, you can contact them. Reportedly, they might have a new version of the extension which doesn't conflict.

If you don't use America Online, you can remove the file by doing the following:

  1. Close the TCP/IP window and any other windows you have open.
  2. Double click on the hard disk icon.
  3. Open the System folder.
  4. Open the Extensions folder.
  5. In there, look for the AOL Link extension.
  6. Drag it out of the System folder. (You can drag it to the trash if you're sure you won't be using the program.)
  7. Restart and go back to TCP/IP. Then AOL Link shouldn't be in the list.

3. There should be an option in the list for either "PPP" (if you are using Open Transport), "FreePPP" (if you're using FreePPP), or "MacPPP" (if you're using ConfigPPP).

4. For the Configure box, click on the triangle pointing down and select "Using PPP Server".

5. Once the Configure box has been set; the IP address, Subnet mask, and Router address should become unavailable saying either "supplied by server" or "not available".

6. In the "Name server addr." box type in 169.197.1.3 on one line and 169.197.1.4 on another.

7. In the "Search domains" box type in azstarnet.com

8. Close the TCP/IP window.

9. If you made any changes, you'll need to restart the Mac before they take effect.
