Setting Up OS 8 for StarNet

1. Launch the Internet Setup Assitant. (Typically you can find it if you open the Hard Disk and click on the Assistants folder.)

Note: If you can't find it, select File (next to the Apple icon) and select Find. In the find window, do a search for Internet. One of the things it pulls up will be the Apple Internet Setup Assistant. Double click on that.

2. A window like the one below should appear.

3. Click on Update.

4. An introduction window appears. Just click on the right arrow to continue. The "Internet configuration" window appears.

5. Make sure "Add Internet configuration" is selected and click on the right arrow. The "Configuration name" window appears.

6. For the name of the configuration put StarNet.
For connecting to the Internet, make sure that "Modem" is selected.

7. Click on the right arrow. The "Modem Settings" window should appear.

8. In that window set the following:

Modem are you using

Set it for the modem you have, or if not on the list, whichever modem your modem manufacturer recommends as a substitute.

Port is the modem connected to

Set it to whichever port the modem is connected.

Phone line use tone or pulse

Set it for "Tone"

9. Click on the right arrow. The "Configuration information" window appears.

10. In that window enter the following:

Phone number

enter in 918-4700

Login name

should be a "P" followed by your username.

Note: Your username was the three to seven character name you selected when you started the account.

Password

is the eight character string of letters and numbers given to you when you set up the account. The letters are in upper and lower case. They must be entered in the same case as they were given to you or it will not work.

11. Click on the right arrow. The "IP Address" window appears.

12. In there, make sure "No" is selected for IP address.

13. Click on the right arrow. The "Domain Name Service" window appears.

14. In that window set the following:

DNS Addresses

enter in 169.197.1.3. Hit the Return key on the keyboard. On the next line enter 169.197.1.4.

Domain name

enter in azstarnet.com

15. Click on the right arrow. The "E-mail address" window should appear.

16. In that window enter the following:

E-mail address

enter in your email address (i.e. your_username@azstarnet.com)

E-mail password

This is the same as your login password

17. Click on the right arrow. The "E-mail account" window should appear.

18. In that window, enter the following:

POP account

put in your username followed by @pop.azstarnet.com (i.e. your_username@pop.azstarnet.com.

SMTP server

enter smtp.azstarnet.com

19. Click on the right arrow. The "Newsgroup Host Computer" should appear.

20. For the news server enter news.azstarnet.com

21. Click on the right arrow. The "Conclusion" window should appear with a summary of all the information entered.

22. Click on the right arrow again. Another "Conclusion" window should appear. Uncheck "Connect when finished" and then click on Go Ahead.

23. Then you should be set.
