Uploading Instructions for Netscape Composer

The Netscape Communicator program suite includes a program for creating and publishing web pages called Composer. Below are instructions for using this program to upload your files.

If you are going to use Communicator, you need to upload the pictures in a web page. You can add all the images you want to upload to a web page and then tell Composer to upload that page.

1. Before trying to upload any pages, you need to create and set permissions on the directory on StarNet's server so people can see your pages. In order to do so, you need to follow the instructions on the Homepage Setup Page.

2. Bring up Composer. In there you can create your web page(s) or load one you've already created.

If you go up to Insert and select Image. That brings up a window where you can tell Composer to include a picture. You can use that to add the images you want to upload.

3. When you are ready to upload you page/files, go up to File in the Menu Items and select Publish. You should see a window like the one below.

4. In there are the following settings:

Page Title

This is the title which appears at the very top of the browser window (above all the buttons).

HTML Filename

This is the actual name of the file. It should end in ".htm" or ".html". If it is the first page, then you will want to name it either "index.htm" or "index.html". You need to name different pages with different names or you will overwrite the previous page.

HTTP or FTP Location to publish to

This must be ftp://ftp.azstarnet.com/export/home/u/username/public_html, where u is the first letter of your username and username is your username.

Note: the username is case sensitive, so you need to enter it in with all lower case letters.

User name

This is your username in all lower case. (Your username is the three to eight character name you selected when you started the account, without the "P" or the "@azstarnet.com")

Password

This is your password.

Note: Passwords are case sensitive so they must be entered in the exact same case.

Save password

If this box is checked, then Composer will remember your password so you don't have to enter it in again.

Other files to include

If this option is selectable, make sure it is set for "Files associated with this page"

5. Click on OK and Composer will try and upload those files to your website.

If you get a message that it couldn't find the directory, try it again and double check what you have for the location to publish to box.

If you get a message saying it couldn't "locate the server", make sure you are logged in to StarNet. If you are and you still get that message, double check what you have for the location to publish to box.

If it reports "Login incorrect", double check what you have entered for the "User name" and "password". Your username is the name you selected when you set up the account (no "P" and no "@azstarnet.com"). The password is case sensitive, so make sure your using the proper combination of upper and lower case letters.
