DSL FAQ

VPN and StarNet

Previous Contents Next

What is VPN?
VPN stands for Virtual Private Networking. It allows you to access a local network through the Internet. The most common use for this is accessing files from an office network while at home.

How do you get VPN to work?
Frankly, this is beyond the scope of this FAQ and StarNet's support. There are several VPN software packages available. StarNet cannot help you select, configure, or install the software required for VPN.

What does StarNet support?
What StarNet will do is make sure the ports used for your VPN software are available for use. For example, the ports for IPSec, a popular VPN standard, have already been opened.

If you are using another VPN package and need those ports allowed, send an e-mail to webmaster@azstarnet.com. In the e-mail, please include all technical information necessary for the proper usage of your particular VPN implementation. If you don't know the technical specifics, including protocol types and ports, please ask someone in your Information Systems department for that information. If you do not supply the port information, we cannot configure our system.

Note: StarNet reserve the right to limit access to StarNet's network, including but not limited to, the use of VPN software.
