StarNet is waiving all its installation fees for DSL service and offering the first month free. We feel getting DSL into the hands of the public is so important we don't want to present any impediments to rapid adoption.

Note: The first month is not waived if you get 256 Select.

However, Qwest is charging both an equipment and an installation fee. This is outside of our control.

Qwest's installation fee for all service speeds is $69.

There is also an equipment fee which varies depending on what package you get. There are two different packages: one costs $99 and the other costs $295.

To see which hardware package you want/need, you should go to "Hardware options available" under the "What Is DSL" section in this FAQ.

Qwest also has an option where you can have a Qwest technician install the network card and configure the DSL "modem". They charge $145 for this service.

Note: The prices above assume you go with the $99 internal DSL hardware. If you need/want the external hardware, add $196 to the total.

Note: The 640k download speed is depends on the condition of the phone line. Some lines may only be able to support 512k or 256k download speeds.

Note: For the general user, 95% of Internet usage is downloading. Unless you upload large files to computers on the Internet on a regular basis, you won't really notice the difference with the faster upload speeds.
