DSL FAQ

640k Minimum

Previous Contents Next

Qwest (formerly US West) has announced that they are increasing the minimum download speed to 640kpbs. This means that future (and eventually current) DSL subscribers should be able to download files and web pages from the Internet at 640k instead of the previous 256k.

Note: This speed increase applies to both Select and Deluxe customers.

Note: The 640kbps is not guaranteed. If your phone lines will only support a lower download speed (such as 512kbps or even 256kbps), that will be the maximum speed for your connection.

The upload speed is still limited to 272kbps--but unless you upload very large files on a regular basis, you wouldn't notice the upload speed anyways.
