Setting Up DSL

(Windows 95)

Note: While installing the 3Com ethernet card, it may prompt you to enter the Windows 95/98 disks/CD. You will need to provide them if everything is going to work.

Note: If you are using Windows 98 and the PCI 3Com card provided by Qwest prior to January 1999, then you need to follow a seperate set of installation instructions to properly install the network card. To follow those instructions, click here.

1. The first step is to install the 3Com networking card that came from US West. (Assuming you didn't have Qwest do the installation for you.) Instructions for installing the card can be found the documentation which came with the card.

2. Once the card is installed, the drivers need to be installed so your computer can see it. Once the computer is back together, turn it on.

3. Windows 95 may detect the network card automatically.

  1. If that is the case, one of the options it gives you for adding a driver is to use a disk from the manufacturer. Select that and click on Ok.
  2. Insert Disk One from 3Com when prompted and click on Ok.
  3. It will then prompt you to insert Disk Two. Insert that and click on Ok.
  4. After installing a number of files, it may prompt for the Windows 95 disks or CD. This must be provided if things are going to work. Once you have that in, click on Ok.
  5. Once everything is done, shut down the computer.

4. If Windows doesn't automatically want to install drviers for the card, you can follow the instructions found in the 3Com manual. Once that's done, shut down the computer.

5. When the computer comes back up, double click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.

6. Double click on Control Panels.

7. Double click on the Network Control panel

8. One of the options in the list should now be TCP/IP for the 3Com card. Click on that once to highlight it.
