We newspaper types hear the complaint a lot - "You never write any good news about teen-agers."
We did today. In spades.
Six years ago, the Star launched an annual section called Senior Class Achievers to highlight the accomplishments of students who might not normally be recognized: those living on their own or raising babies or struggling to work full time and go to school.
They are the students who might not have the highest GPAs or be involved in tons of school activities, but for whom staying in school was accomplishment enough.
Today, the section has evolved to include a mix of those students along with the valedictorians and all-star athletes - all picked from the hundreds of nominations we received from Southern Arizona schools and parents.
We're limited by space to include 10 percent of a school's graduating class, and everyone nominated was considered for one of five scholarships.
We selected students based on the hardships they've had to overcome, outstanding volunteer work as well as their academic and athletic talents.
It's an impressive mix of young people. Check them out.
