To Protect and (File)Serve StarNet Security Bulletin

UseNet "Spams"

We have experienced four UseNet spams from StarNet subscribers in the past two weeks. A spam is an article posted to one or more off-topic newsgroups. These tend to irritate UseNet readers and often result in a flood of complaints to our administrative mailboxes. Spams are also a violation of StarNet's Acceptable Use Protocol. Since the users involved in the last four spams were unaware of this policy, we have not terminated their accounts. Any spams posted after today will result in immediate termination of the originator's account.

Additionally, we have implemented a "cancelbot" to delete the offending posts from UseNet. We will use this program on all future spams to assure that the posts do not have their intended effect (usually advertising).
