No More Tears

No more tears for me
No more tears for the
weak and the weary
No more tears
for those who have
been beaten down by the
boulders of racism.

No more tears
for those of you
who have worked endlessly
in the withering heat, only
to come up empty handed.
No more tears
for the sons and daughters
of mothers and fathers
who have seen jail cell after jail cell.

No more tears for my people
No more tears for the children
who starve for love and a better life.
No more tears
for the children who live in poverty-stricken areas
where the hopelessness of living
remains too bleak.
No more tears
for the poor in spirit,
for the one who lives with such anguish,
as to the point you cannot imagine.

Anguish?
What pain and suffering?
I say the pain that my people have felt,
the pain that is choking them,
the pain that breaks their hearts to bits,
to the extreme
that they no longer feel.
They have no feelings
because they have been tread upon
by a society that has coldly
excluded them for four hundred years
Their feet have ached from walking
an endless road to freedom.
They have suffered
they have protested and demonstrated.
They have walked amongst the cruelest men.
They have been murdered,
beaten,
robbed,

They've seen their churches go up in flames.
They stand by and watch
the masked terrorists ride off into the night.
with no justice possible at all.
They have suffered,
cried tears,
and felt pain no one has understood,
except for you and I

There will come a day when there will be
no more tears
for me or my people.
And no more tears for you.
