SPECIAL TO THE ARIZONA DAILY STAR

Janet Rabin has worked hard to make her mark on the world. Rabin, an actress, musician, playwright and more, is not only an outstanding performer, but an outstanding humanitarian.

Rabin needed 30 hours of community service for her senior project to fulfill graduation requirements at Kino School. She started volunteering for organizations like Arizona Friends of Tibet and Food Not Bombs, and cooking and distributing food for homeless people in Project Hospitality for Christ Church United Methodist. She has since far exceeded the requirements for graduation.

“I really like working for Arizona Friends of Tibet,” said Rabin, who works as a receptionist for the organization. “I'm very interested in Tibet, and I hope to go there one day.”

The other part of Rabin’s senior project will be a recital she is organizing that will feature her performing on the piano and singing three pieces she composed.

She is not new to performing her own work. Last year she began a student-run drama class with 10 other classmates and put on several one-act plays, including a play she wrote.

Because of her outstanding interest in performing arts, Rabin, who will be attending Mount Holyoke College next year, had the opportunity to attend an intensive six-week precollege drama program at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, last summer.

“The program was great,” Rabin said. Next year in college, Rabin plans to study drama and language.
