School test results

Here's a sample of the percentile rankings of Pima County schools based on standardized test scores.

The numbers reflect the average student's performance at the school or district. The score is compared to those of other schools and districts across the nation that administered the tests.

For example, a school that scored at the 50th percentile has outperformed 49 of every 100 schools using the test.

The numbers have no relation to local grade levels and don't affect student grade point averages, according to Tucson area school districts.

For the 1996-97 school year, the Arizona State Board of Education mandated testing in grades 3-12 to measure ability in reading, mathematics and language. Scores of grades 4, 7 and 10 are listed below to provide a snapshot of average scores at area elementaries, middle schools and high schools.

The Stanford Achievement Test, Ninth Edition test scores were released yesterday by the Arizona Department of Education. The three-hour multiple-choice exam this year replaced the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills, a standardized test given statewide in each of the previous eight years.

The Stanford 9 test was given to more than 500,000 children statewide.
