Pedro Martínez Peñalver

Pedro Martínez Peñalver was the only disciple of Alfonso Checa. Checa received various prizes, among them first prize in the International Exposition in Madrid 1953. Starting as his apprentice in 1962, Pedro Martinez Peñalver worked with him until his death in 1978, and inherited his shop. Pedro builds classical and flamenco guitars using Checa's designs.  His flamenco guitars are especially sought after by professional players. They are bright, crisp, responsive, and have a truly flamenco edge to their sound. Pedro builds entirely by hand so his production of guitars is limited. Pedro lives in small town in the province of Granada, so his guitars are somewhat more affordable than are similar ones made by makers in metropolitan areas.
