Juan Miguel Carmona "Habichuela" was born in Granada in
1960. He began his apprenticeship at the age of 14, with master builders Eduardo Ferrer
Castillo, Manuel López Bellido, Antonio Durán, and Francisco Manuel Díaz. By the age of
22, he had mastered his craft, and established his own workshop. As a builder, he has
studied the guitars of the great guitar makers, Antonio de Torres, José Ramirez, Santos
Hernández, and Marcelo Barberos'. The guitar's he makes are patterned after the
latter's. He uses wood that has been cured and dried for 10 to 15 years for the guitars he
builds. Carmona has sold his flamenco guitars to such greats as Sabicas, Juan Habichuela,
Pepe Habichuela, Yerbita, Tomatito, Manuel Cano, Manuel Delgado, and Ketama. |
