Guitarres Camps, S.L.
|
Guitarres Camps are made in the Catalan town of Porqueres, Spain. Its
founder, Juan Camps Coll, has been making guitars in l945. The company is currently
run by Juan's sons, Javier and Jordi. His son, Javier Camps Masós was born in Banyoles,
Girona in 1959, and began his apprenticeship with his father when he was 14. Working with
a specialized team of luthiers the two brothers have maintained the craftsmanship
for which Camps guitars are known. After many years of investigation, they have been able
to combine the best of traditional Spanish construction techniques with those of modern
methods of manufacture and quality control. This quality control includes the careful
selection and classification of woods to be used in each model. These innovations also
include electronically monitoring the curing and seasoning of wood, as well as to
judiciously use modern tools for greater accuracy in certain phases of construction.
Another example of modern techniques they have adopted is the incorporation of an
adjustable steel rod that runs inside the neck that allow corrections easily to be made
should changes in environmental conditions, humidity, or string tension distort the neck.
Finally, before any guitar is shipped, each guitar is both checked acoustically and for
quality of workmanship. Camps Guitarres continues to build instruments which have the best
acoustic characteristics of Spanish guitars-- balance, clarity, and power. As the results
of these innovations, the company has been able to triple its production over the past
five years to now about 4000 estudio model guitars a year. As well, Javier,
personally continues to build 10 to 12 of their master model guitars a year. |
