Amalio Burguet was born in Catarroja, a small
Village near the City of Valencia, in 1951. He was very soon captured by the magic of
making the six string Spanish Guitar. He began developing his talents as a guitar builder
as a youth and spent several years working in different workshops not only in Valencia,
but in shops such as that of Paulino Bernabé in Madrid. Valencia's guitar factories
had traditionally made average guitars, with the best ones coming out of one man
workshops. Amalio Burguet took the best of both worlds. He has worked out every single
detail concerning the materials, temperature and humidity conditions and the method of
construction in order to develop a guitar that could be manufactured and yet conserve the
high standards offered by hand-built instruments. Their top models are made entirely by
hand, and sixty five percent of their other models are hand-built.
In contrast to the other guitar makers, he has never worked alone. He opened his shop in
1984 with a staff of three guitar makers. In 1994, he opened a new workshop with a much
expanded staff which currently numbers fifteen. Fortunately his original idea has
been very successful. They now build about 1,500 guitars a year. Following this
philosophy, Sr. Burguet continues to introduce improvements, looking each day to build
better guitars. Burguet guitars not only have been embraced by market, but also by
musicians who always have the last word, who buy and play his instruments.
Recently,
Amalio has opened a workshop of his own within his factory where he builds their top
models-- with a B engraved in the headstock entirely by hand.
