The Vícente Sanchís Badía guitar factory
was originally founded in 1915 by Ricardo Sanchís Nacher (1881-1960), a talented
luthier with close ties with the shops of Manuel Ramírez and Domingo Esteso. The company
is run by the Vícente Sanchis, son of the founder, and employs some 22 workers.
Vícente Sanchis Badía makes a variety of models from low end student models to classical
and flamenco guitars for virtuosos. Despite its size, methods of construction remain
doggedly traditional, and most of the work is done by hand. Each of his
craftsmen specializes in one or two models. Craftsmen with less experience build the
cheaper models, as they gain experience they are promoted to more expensive models. Their
top models are made by master luthiers. In 2000, Vicente Sanchis retired and
the firm was reorganized by his sons and partners. They continue to
make most of the same models of guitars under the same label. |
