René Baarslag was born in Holland in 1948. In 1977 he came to
Granada to study flamenco and was drawn into the world of guitar making. He apprenticed
with Antonio Marin Montero. Like other members of the Granada school, he builds classical
and flamenco guitars by hand using traditional methods and designs. Currently he lives on
a remote mountain top in the Sierra Nevada with his wife, Ana Espinosa Rodriguez, who
recently also has begun to build guitars. His guitars are patterned after those of Santos
Hernandez (1873-1942), one of this century's greatest guitar makers. |
