A roundup of actions good and bad

A desert blossom to our wonderful winter weather here in the desert.
While residents of the upper Midwest suffer in Arctic cold temperatures — Grand Forks, N.D., dropped to a record 37 below zero Tuesday and Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, was at minus 36 — we enjoy sunny sweater weather.
Let's pause and pat ourselves on the back for being so wise and foresighted in choosing a place to live . . . in the winter, anyway.
A flower to the University of Arizona for acknowledging hard times and easing the way a bit for its students by changing its tuition policy. Instead of automatically dropping students who miss their tuition-payment deadline, the UA will let them stay in class and will automatically enroll them in a tuition payment plan. The new policy will almost certainly allow some students who can't quickly come up with the full amount to stay in school.
A leather flower with stitches up its stem to the Arizona Cardinals, who made the Carolina Panthers look positively amateurish in a 33-13 rout on Saturday, and will host the NFC championship game this weekend. If the Cards beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, they're headed to the Super Bowl.
We'll be rooting for them.
A flower to the Pima County Board of Supervisors for extending the contract of County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry. At this point, it seems certain that Huckelberry's primary legacy will be the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan — and what a legacy it is. We're glad that an administrator with his experience and knowledge will be in the top county job helping to guide the area through this recession.
