The husband of a woman found slain Tuesday in the kitchen of her Queen Creek-area home has confessed to the killing, officials said.
Authorities arrested Dennis G. Crouse, 50, Tuesday night and booked him into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on suspicion of stabbing his wife, Diane, 36, to death.
Crouse told deputies that he killed his wife in their home during a fight, said Pinal County sheriff's spokesman Mike Minter.
Crouse is a former fire chief for Otho, Iowa, according to the Fort Dodge Messenger newspaper in Iowa.
Minter said the suspect arrived at the scene while authorities were investigating and spent a brief time with his children before he was taken in for questioning about 5 p.m.
The two children are in the custody of Arizona Child Protective Services.
Diane Crouse was found dead about 4 p.m. in her home in the Rancho Bella Vista community by her 8-year-old daughter, who had returned from school. The woman's 1-year-old daughter was in the house.
A deputy arrived at the home after the older girl called 911. The children were taken from the home after authorities found the woman dead.
Sheriff's investigators served a search warrant on the home late Tuesday night. Neighbors in the newly built development said they did not know the family well.
