The cost of the program is $475, which covers dinners, speakers, materials and notebooks. Each participant will receive free admission to the YWCA Women and Money Conference, to be held on Feb. 17.
Participants will receive training that they can use to become effective leaders in their workplaces and in the community. Each will have an opportunity to network with other women, to interact with outstanding female leaders and to enhance her leadership skills.

Experts give boost to neighborhoods
PRO Neighborhoods has joined with local engineering, landscape architecture, and planning professionals to help residents improve their neighborhoods. PRO Neighborhoods is requesting proposals for its Planning & Design Service Award.
Neighborhood groups (consisting of at least five unrelated people from separate households) can apply for a service award to help with the project.
The award is not a financial grant. Instead, successful applicants will be matched with local professionals who have the expertise needed to complete their projects. A "pocket park" project might be provided with a planner, a hydrologist and a landscape architect, for example.
Providing their services at no charge, these experts can help a group define a common vision for its neighborhood, develop a plan for landscaping or traffic control, identify required permits, and estimate construction costs for public-space improvements.
The Planning & Design Service Award guidelines and applications are available at www.proneighbor hoods.org or by calling 882-5885. Applications are due by 4 p.m. April 10.
An application help session is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 28 at the Sentinel Building, 320 N. Commerce Park Loop. Reservations are required.
Breakfast precedes mental-health event
The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southern Arizona will announce the NAMI Walks for the Mind of America event during a kickoff breakfast.
The breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 8 at the Manning House, 450 W. Paseo Redondo. The event is sponsored by La Frontera, and the guest speaker will be Peter Likins, the former University of Arizona president who is honorary co-chair of the event. Dr. Thomas Insel, director of the National Institutes of Mental Health and also a co-chair of the walk, will not attend the breakfast but will attend the walk.
Parking is available west of the building. Space is limited, and walkers and volunteers planning on attending are asked to make reservations by Jan. 31 by calling the alliance office at 622-5582.
The walk, scheduled for March 31, aims to raise money, reduce stigma and create awareness for people with brain disorders and their families. The presenting sponsor is the Community Partnership of Southern Arizona.
