An evening monsoon storm knocked out power to about 4,000 customers Friday and brought high winds and lightning strikes throughout the Tucson area.
The storm did not drop much rain, with Tucson International Airport only receiving a trace, according to the National Weather Service.
However, parts of the northeast side received up to a half-inch of rain, the weather service said.
Areas on the northwest side and in the Catalina Foothills saw winds of at least 55 mph, the weather service said.
The Tucson Fire Department received numerous reports of trees on fire due to lightning strikes, said Capt. Trish Tracy, a Tucson Fire Department spokeswoman.
A garage roof in the 1900 block of East Spring Street, near North Campbell Avenue and East Grant Road, caught fire after embers from a burning palm tree landed on the building, Tracy said.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it caused significant damage, she said.
The storm knocked out power to customers scattered throughout Tucson, mostly on the southeast side, west side and the Catalina Foothills, said Joseph Barrios, a Tucson Electric Power spokesman.
The largest outage remained on the far west side near Tucson Estates, where up to 500 customers did not have service, Barrios said.
