Fundraiser to help support Danish team
The Danish Club of Tucson will have a smorgasbord from 5 to 11 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Executive Inn & Suites, 333 W. Drachman St., as a fundraiser for the upcoming visit of the National Danish Performance Team.
Attending the smorgasbord is a way to learn about Danish cuisine and culture while providing support for youth fitness workshops during an upcoming weeklong visit of the Danish Performance Team Jan. 24-Feb 1.
Danish delicacies such as pickled herring, frikadeller (Danish meatballs) and pastries will be washed down with Danish beer and aquavit — a Danish spirit flavored with herbs such as caraway seed and dill.
Raffle prizes and silent auction items from Bodum, Bang & Olufsen and local businesses including Mona's Danish Bakery, Lori Woods Landscaping and Cele Peterson's will help raise funds to support fitness workshops for 4,000 kids in schools and YMCA programs in Tucson.
A public performance will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at Ironwood Ridge High School's gym, 2475 W. Naranja Road.
Tickets to the smorgasbord are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Tickets to the National Danish Performance Team are $10 for adults, $5 for kids. To buy tickets, call Mia Hansen at 370-0588 or e-mail her at miajhansen@ msn.com for more information.

Grant Road work is open house topic
The public is invited to an open house for the Grant Road recommended alignment from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Tucson Association of Realtors, 2445 N. Tucson Blvd.
The project's planning team received more than 400 comments on the proposed alignment. All public comments, including those that resulted in modifications to the alignment, are posted online at the www.grantroad.info Web site.
Comments that did not directly affect the alignment regarding elements such as access, cut-through traffic, noise mitigation, parking replacement, landscaping and streetscaping, circulation and land use will be addressed during Phase II of the project in 2009.
The recommended alignment can also be viewed online at the Web address above, at public libraries and the Pima Association of Governments Regional Transportation Authority office, 177 N. Church Ave., Suite 405.
The improvement of Grant Road from North Oracle Road to North Swan Road is one of the largest Regional Transportation Authority projects approved by voters in May of 2006.
The open house is sponsored by the Grant Road Improvement Plan Citizen's Task Force and Planning Team.
