The subject of this year's annual local Brandeis National Committee lecture is: "Obama and the Media: Will the Honeymoon Continue?"
Brandeis University journalism professor Eileen McNamara, a Pulitzer Prize winner, will be the guest speaker at the event, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Skyline Country Club, 5200 E. St. Andrews Drive.
The cost is $20 for Brandeis National Committee members and $25 for non-members.
McNamara, a lecturer in the Brandeis journalism program since 1994, has offered popular courses on the media and public policy and journalistic ethics. As a columnist for the Boston Globe, she won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 1997.
Her publications include "Breakdown: Sex, Suicide and the Harvard Psychiatrist," in 1994, an examination of a psychiatric malpractice case following the suicide of a Harvard medical student; and "The Parting Glass: A Toast to the Traditional Pubs of Ireland" (with Eric Roth), in 2006.
The Tucson Chapter of the Brandeis National Committee provides community support to local maternity wards and battered women's shelters, as well as outreach to Tucson elementary schools by providing books to their libraries.
