One man is dead and another injured in what police are calling a possible home invasion on the West Side.
The details surrounding Wednesday's slaying — the 73rd in the city this year — were sketchy.
Just before 12:30 p.m., a man knocked on a neighbor's door and said he'd been shot, said Sgt. Mark Robinson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
The neighbor called 911, and police responded to the 1900 block of North Atwood Avenue, near West Ironwood Hill Drive and North Greasewood Road, where they found a man dead inside a home, Robinson said.
The wounded man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say several armed men entered the house and confronted the two victims.
The names of the victims were not released.
A 4-year-old child was inside the home when the intruders came in. One of the intruders pushed the child to the floor, but the child was not injured otherwise, Robinson said.
A relative was located to care for the child.
Valerie Rodarte said she knows the wounded man and his girlfriend, who lives in the house.
"I've known them for years and baby-sat their kids," said Rodarte, who lives in the same neighborhood.
Two of the girlfriend's children had arrived home from school with another group of children after the incident.
Rodarte said she took the children to the home of the girlfriend's relative.
She described the neighborhood as a normal, quiet area with a lot of families.
"It's not a bad neighborhood at all," she said.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office.
