PHOENIX — The state's new speed photo-enforcement program is under way.
The Department of Public Safety said three camera units were deployed Friday. The first locations included sites along Interstate 10 in west Phoenix and Arizona 51 in north Phoenix.
DPS Lt. James Warriner said speeding vehicles triggered one unit's cameras 110 times during a 2 1/2-hour period Friday morning.
The contractor will add a handful of additional mobile units weekly until the total reaches 40 by the end of November. There will also be about 60 fixed cameras.
Warriner says DPS won't be publicizing locations as some local governments do.
He says there is plenty of warning between photo enforcement signs erected near the vehicles and regular highway speed-limit signs.
