Tucson Time Capsule : Cutting edge in 1973

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 08.30.2008
Check out this computer. Tucson High School principal Lee Starr, left, and Russ Krueger, a programmer with the district, inspected the new automation system to help curb truancy on Aug. 30, 1973. The school had a high absentee rate. The computer allowed the school to print letters and ready them for mailing to the students' homes. Previously, the school had called or sent someone to see the parents, but usually the parents were not at home. In a little over 30 minutes, 750 letters could be generated.
