2nd Ghost Bike memorial missing from site where boy was struck, killed

The second Ghost Bike memorial for a 14-year-old who was struck and killed while riding a bicycle along East Broadway appears to have been stolen.
The first was installed in May and was apparently taken after an article on the white roadside bikes ran in the Arizona Daily Star last month. The bikes are painted white as a memorial to a bicyclist killed while riding, and serve as a reminder for drivers to watch for bicyclists. It was replaced two days later by Chris Chandler and his son Riley Chandler.
"We're just very moved by the whole thing. The whole school was just totally torn apart for a couple of weeks by all of this; it's just so sad," Chris Chandler said of the crash that killed Jose Rincon in January.
The pair took family members to see the bike this week but found out Friday morning the second bike had also gone missing.
"It's kind of disturbing that somebody would do this," Chris Chandler said.
Chandler said he and his son planned to put another bike up Friday afternoon on East Broadway near South Harrison Road, the site of the crash.
The city's policy on roadside memorials is to leave them if they do not pose a public safety threat, block visibility for those on the road, or block pedestrian or motor vehicle access, said Michael Graham, spokesman for the Tucson Department of Transportation.
"Our streets crews did not remove that memorial," Graham said.
