Isabella C. Lewis loved the violin and devoted much of her life to the instrument and the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. On July 25, 1978, when this photo was taken for a Star article, she was the only original member of the symphony still active in it. From that first concert in 1929, with Camil Van Hulse at the podium, Lewis played with TSO for more than 60 years. She told the reporter she was still pursuing the perfect sound with her violin: "It's a will-o'-the-wisp that you never catch up with." She passed away in 1999. Read more about the early years of TSO in Tales from the Morgue at go.azstarnet.com/morguetales.
