Sherri Strong and Jeremy Box displayed their fancy footwork on July 16, 1983, in a dance contest at Foothills Mall. Their skills with dances from the 1940s through the 1960s, including jitterbug, cha-cha and twist, won them first-place honors. For their efforts, they each received $250 gift certificates. Both Strong and Box were teachers at Fred Astaire Dance World. Read more about Tucson's past at Tales From the Morgue at go.azstarnet.com/morguetales. Today's entry is on the 1940s dance scene at the Pioneer Hotel.
