COMING SUNDAY, DON'T MISS:
Taylor W. Lawrence started his first day within earshot of the roaring engines of fighter jets plying the runway at neighboring Tucson International Airport.
The scene is a far cry from his small-town Alabama childhood, though the sounds of exploding model rockets and chemical reactions were interlaced with the early life of this self-described nerd and science junkie. At 44, Lawrence now heads Tucson-based Raytheon Missile Systems, Southern Arizona's largest employer, which makes, among other things, weapons for those F-16 jets, which belong to the Arizona Air National Guard.
It's a job he started officially on Tuesday after moving from Raytheon's headquarters in Waltham, Mass., where he was a vice president.
