Hundreds of kids in Tucson are looking for adults to be their friends and mentors. The non-profit Big Brothers Big Sisters program matches children with adults who have similar interests, such as sports, reading and the outdoors.
"Bigs" and their "Littles" also have the chance to go on outings with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. They go camping and to ballgames and other events. Being a Big Brother or Big Sister doesn't require spending a lot of money. Volunteers see a child at least twice a month. To get started, volunteers can call Big Brothers Big Sisters at 624-2447 or go to www.tucsonbigs.org and fill out an application online.
The following information was provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson.
Here's a boy looking for a Big Brother:
● Jensen, who is 13, lives in Vail and likes to play video games, read and watch movies. He hopes to find a Big Brother who can help him with his schoolwork and introduce him to new things.
And here's a successful matchup:
● Big Couple Jo and Art Kramer are mentors to 10-year-old Little Sister April, bottom left. They often include in their activities April's twin sister, Amy, right, and the twins' older sister, Amber, center. They enjoy going to church and picnics, doing arts and crafts, and being active.
