● Tu Nidito orientation: At 6 p.m. Friday, the topic is volunteer services to support families and children facing serious illness or death.
● Calling computer nerds: Be a key member of the information technology team by helping a webmaster with bug fixes and documentation of custom code, primarily in Access. Expertise in programming and writing code is required.
● Babies don't come with instructions: Female volunteers discuss newborn care, development and resources with parents just after delivery to show that the community cares about new families.
● Weekend thrift store: Sell quality clothing and small household items, or accept donations. The proceeds benefit refugee communities in Tucson.
● Imaging Center hostess: Serve as a friendly receptionist, provide general information to patients, and do basic clerical work.
● Elementary reading coaches: Tutoring for an hour each week will help elementary school students succeed with critical reading skills. Training is held at libraries.
● Licensed mental health professional: Your expertise is needed for disaster relief, locally or nationally. You'll provide counseling, crisis intervention and advocacy to individuals or families affected by fire, floods or other disasters.
● Memories: Befriend hospice patients and document their lives through reminiscences. Volunteers complete a free 30-hour training program in hospice work.
● Space docents: Inspire future generations by guiding school groups on tours at an air and space museum. The tour content is tailored to each group's age and interests.
● Achieve academic success: Students in all grades need help with basic math, reading and homework skills. The supervised Achieve program runs for two hours after school at 10 locations in Midtown and the Northwest Side. Volunteers age 16 and older are welcome.
