The U.S. House of Representatives' leader on military affairs will tour Southern Arizona's military installations this week.

U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton, a Missouri Democrat and chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, will tour Fort Huachuca, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and the 162nd National Guard Fighter Wing at Tucson International Airport, meeting with boosters, base officials and enlisted personnel.

Joining Skelton on the tour will be U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a Southern Arizona Democrat, said C.J. Karamargin, her spokesman.

Skelton will tour Fort Huachuca on Friday, followed by D-M and the 162nd Fighter Wing on Saturday.

The purpose of the visit is to help Skelton understand the missions of the local military installations and their importance to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, Karamargin said.

"These military installations are obviously very vital components to our ongoing military operations," he said.
