The 103 Fire, burning south of Sierra Vista in the Huachuca Mountains, did not do a great deal of damage to the landscape, officials said Thursday as the blaze neared full containment.
The fire was 95 percent contained, with full containment expected by today, spokeswoman Marylee Peterson said. It had burned 2,050 acres.
"Generally, the fire did not burn at a high level of severity," Bob Lefevre, a team leader for the Burned Area Emergency Response team, said in a news release. "Most of the trees and grasses are not dead and will grow vigorously when the rain comes."
Crews are now focusing on suppressing hot spots, according to the release from the Eastern Arizona Type II Incident Management team, which is turning the fire over to the Sierra Vista Ranger District Office.
The Burned Area Emergency Response team is considering replacing or repairing and cleaning out road culverts to carry increased runoff should it occur, the news release said. It is also assessing the possibility of treatments to help stabilize the Arizona Trail.
