Public shows and auctions
What Tucsonans call "the gem show" is actually an amalgamation of retail and wholesale shows that dot the city.

1 48th annual Tucson Gem & Mineral Show
Tucson Convention Center, 260 S. Church Ave.,
Hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Feb. 14-16; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 17
Admission: $5.50; children 14 years old and under free when accompanied by an adult.
What: Highlights are African art, gems and minerals. Also, mineral jewelry, gems, fossils, beads, lapidary creations, geodes and meteorites. Earth sciences maze and hands-on displays for kids.
2 Globe-X Gem, Mineral, Fossil & Jewelry Show
Days Inn, 222 S. Freeway Road
Hours: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Jan. 31-Feb. 15
What: Gemstones, decorator minerals, polished minerals, beads, opals, amber, crystals and septariums. Also wholesale.
3 Gem & Lapidary Wholesalers Inc.
Rodeway Inn, 1365 W. Grant Road (at Interstate 10)
Hours: Public auction begins at 10 a.m. Feb. 16
What: Gems, minerals, lapidary equipment, beads. Wholesale show with public auction.
4 Pacifica Trade Shows

Hours: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Feb. 2-16.
What: Minerals, fossils, gemstones, rough jewelry and metaphysical merchandise. Also wholesale.
