Dry soda
Why you want it: This sparkling treat is what happens when soda grows up. The soda contains only a smidge of sugar and is all-natural; it's meant to take the place of alcohol with a meal. Flavors are distinctly adult — kumquat, rhubarb, lemongrass and lavender — and very understated. Think Perrier with a very subtle taste.
How much: $25 for 12-bottle cases from www.drysoda.com or call 1-253-573-0197
Servers
Why you want it: Silver-plated and wrapped with funky beads, these servers, designed by Tucson artist Jenni Pagano, are perfect for low-key family dining or a fancier affair.
How much: $35 for a pair at Bohemia, 299 S. Park Ave.
'Tasting Club'
By Dina Cheney (DK Publishing, 2006)
Why you want it: You've got the book club. Now start a tasting club. This tome tells you how to go about it. It also talks about "deep tasting" — you know, the art of savoring food and drink. Works for us.
