The magic's in the music - any music

By Laura Mignon and Jennifer Welch

We're judged for everything we do: brains or no brains, cool or uncool, black or white, which crowd we hang out with, where we shop. Music is no exception. For years people have categorized music from blues to oldies, rock to pop and country to hip-hop.

Recent generations have made music more than something we enjoy in our spare time; it's become a lifestyle. The way we dress, eat, sleep and breathe often depends on the music we love.

Nicole Dumas, a junior from Salpointe Catholic High School, says, "I dedicate my life to music. I love to sing, play violin and piano. Music has helped me get through my life. I don't know how I would live without" it.

Which style defines your musical taste? What sounds like you?

Even though you can single out a music genre, people are far harder to figure out. Some are equipped with a love for all types of music. Music is a common ground for people to join together in common taste.
