A desert divided
A scientist named Forrest Shreve broke the Sonoran Desert down into seven subdivisions in the 1950s. Fifty years later, people still more or less use Shreve's subdivisions to describe our region. They are: Vizcaino, Foothills of Sonora, Arizona Upland, Lower Colorado River Valley, Central Gulf Coast, Magdalena and Plains of Sonora. Click on each region below to find out more.
