Write a personal story
What does the desert mean to you? You could write a personal story, also called an essay, about the Sonoran Desert and take photographs to illustrate it.
Find two examples of desert essays written by two Tucson teen-agers at www.azstarnet.com/desertmuseum/essays.html.
They write for Voices. The Tucson program brings together low-income youths and professional writers and photographers to create community publications. Interested youths (and adult volunteers) can call 622-7458.

Create a creature
Draw a new Sonoran Desert animal from your imagination. Make sure its features are specially adapted to survive in its habitat, whether it's desert, sea, river or Sky Islands.
Here's an example, adapted from a drawing by David Kenyon of the Coati Kids Club.
