Two Arizona senior citizens, including one from Tucson, filed a proposed class-action lawsuit in U.S. court Monday, claiming an Iowa-based life insurance company duped customers into buying financial products through deceptive sales practies.
Plaintiffs Mary Helen Eller, of Maricopa County, and Paul Harrington, of Tucson, filed the suit against EquiTrust Life Insurance Co. through their attorneys.
According to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, EquiTrust designed a scheme that defrauds policyholders, specifically the elderly, by creating products that paid agents oversized commissions and lured prospects with illusory bonuses.
