2Fraud was reported at 3:03 p.m. Nov. 25 in the 3700 block of East Hardy Drive. A resident told deputies the following: She received a letter with an offer to work for a company called General Services and was sent a MoneyGram for $3,490. The letter stated the money was given to her "to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the MoneyGram." She followed the instructions and deposited the check into her bank account. She was supposed to contact one of several people when she wired the money to another person. When she went back to the bank to withdraw the money, she discovered her account was overdrawn by $300. She spoke to a bank employee and was told the entire deposited amount plus all of her own money had been withdrawn. She said no one at the company has returned her calls.
3Larceny was reported at 3:27 p.m. Nov. 25 at The Arboretum apartments, 4700 N. Kolb Road. The owner told deputies someone took paperwork from the glove box of his car. An electronic navigation system, a pocket knife and 60 CDs were also taken. He said he might have left a door unlocked.
4An attempted truck theft was reported at 4:44 p.m. Nov. 25 in the 3500 block of East Sunrise Drive. The owner told deputies the alarm was not working. The driver's door lock was punched out, the steering column was ripped out and the ignition was damaged.
5Fraud was reported at 9:08 p.m. Nov. 25 at El Corral restaurant, 2201 E. River Road. The manager told deputies the following: She received a call at 4:45 p.m. about an employee who was in jail in Colorado and needed bail money immediately because of the upcoming Thanksgiving Day holiday. The caller told her the employee had the $300 for bail but not the means to transfer the funds. He refused to give his name or the name of his organization. He requested $300 be sent via Western Union to a town in Colorado. He told her someone would deliver the money to pay back the restaurant by 7 p.m. He told her the name of the woman in jail after she recited the employee roster to him. She sent another employee to a nearby Western Union office to wire the money. After 7 p.m., she called the employee who was supposedly in jail because the money had not been delivered. The woman told her she was not in jail and had been at home all day. She realized the entire incident had been a scam.
