January nets 25 to help Sun Devils beat UC-Davis

DAVIS, Calif. — Briann January scored a career-high 25 points Wednesday night to lead No. 25 Arizona State to a 73-59 win over UC-Davis.
January also tied a school record with seven three-pointers.
Dymond Simon added 20 points, and Danielle Orsillo had 10 for the Sun Devils (4-2), who shot 50 percent (25 for 50) from the field, including 61 percent (14 for 23) from beyond the arc.
Paige Mintun had 18 points to lead UC-Davis (3-2).
● No. 1 Connecticut 96, Holy Cross 37: In Storrs, Conn., freshman Caroline Doty scored 11 points and extended her school-record streak of made three-pointers to 10 to lead top-ranked Connecticut over Holy Cross.
It was the fifth straight game that UConn has scored at least 90 points.
Doty hit all three of her attempts from behind the arc. She made six in a row in Sunday's 106-78 win over No. 6 Oklahoma.
Doty was one of six Huskies in double figures. Tahirah Williams went 7 of 8 from the field and scored a career-high 17 to lead Connecticut.
Tina Charles, Renee Montgomery and Maya Moore each had 13. Kaili McLaren added 10.
Briana McFadden led Holy Cross with 10.
● No. 2 North Carolina 72, No. 18 Ohio State 63: In Columbus, Ohio, Jessica Breland scored 29 points as North Carolina held Ohio State scoreless for more than nine minutes of the second half in a ACC/Big Ten Challenge game.
Breland had 21 in the opening half as the Tar Heels opened a 41-37 lead. Cetera DeGraffenreid added 14 points and six assists.
● No. 6 Oklahoma 69, Creighton 49: In Norman, Okla., All-America center Courtney Paris needed a late surge to record her 99th straight double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds, and Oklahoma overcame a lethargic effort.
Chevelle Herring had 16 points, and Megan Neuvirth added 15 to lead Creighton.
● No. 14 Auburn 95, Carolina A&T 74: In Auburn, Ala., Dewanna Bonner had 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead Auburn over North Carolina A&T.
Brittany Taylor-James led the Aggies with 18 points and nine rebounds.
● Georgia Tech 70, No. 21 Michigan State 57: In Atlanta, Alex Montgomery had 20 points to lead Georgia Tech in its upset of Michigan State.
Aisha Jefferson led the Spartans with 14 points.
● No. 24 Pittsburgh 66, Duquesne 47: In Pittsburgh, Kate Popovec scored 15 points, Shavonte Zellous had 13, and Pittsburgh opened the second half with a decisive run.
The Panthers stretched a 27-23 lead at halftime into a 42-27 advantage with a 15-4 run.
● Oregon State 83, USF 66: In San Francisco, Alex Mitchell led four Beavers in double figures with 17 points in their victory over USF at War Memorial Gymnasium.
Brittney Davis added 15, and Kassandra McCalister had a season-high 12. Mercedes Fox-Griffin contributed 11.
● UCLA 104, CS-Bakersfield 57: In Los Angeles, Christina Nzekwe led three Bruins in double figures in their rout over the Roadrunners.
Nzekwe had 13 points and seven rebounds. Doreena Campbell also had 13, and Rebekah Gardner netted 12.
● Washington 67, Pepperdine 53: In Malibu, Calif., junior Sami Whitcomb led three Huskies in double figures with 18 points to lead Washington to its first road victory of the year.
Whitcomb scored 16 of her 18 points in the second half, including a trio of three-pointers to help the Huskies pull away.
