Harden's career-best 40 lead Sun Devils over UTEP

ANAHEIM, Calif. — James Harden scored a tournament-record and career-high 40 points to lead No. 14 Arizona State's 88-58 rout of Texas-El Paso in the third-place game of the 76 Classic on Sunday night.
Harden made 14 of 25 shots, six of seven from three-point range, and added eight rebounds and four assists for the Sun Devils (5-1).
Harden surpassed the tournament's single-game scoring record for the second consecutive game; he set it with 32 points against Baylor on Friday. He also set a record for most tournament points, 87.
Randy Culpepper scored 24 points for the Miners (3-3).
● Western Kentucky 68, No. 3 Louisville 54: In Nashville, Tenn., Western Kentucky double-teamed Louisville's Samardo Samuels at every turn.
Louisville shot just 27 percent from the field and made just 6 of 30 three-pointers.
No. 1 North Carolina 116, North Carolina-Asheville 48: In Chapel Hill, N.C., Ty Lawson scored 22 points as the Tar Heels won without national Player of the Year Tyler Hansbrough.
Danny Green added 18 points for the Tar Heels (7-0).
● No. 5 Michigan State 65, Wichita State 57: In Lake Buena Vista, Fla.. Marquis Gray scored 12 points and Michigan State (4-1) bounced back after a first-round upset by Maryland to win two straight in the Old Spice Classic.
● No. 6 Texas 77, Rice 56: In Austin, Texas, Justin Mason scored 14 points and Gary Johnson added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Longhorns (5-1).
The Longhorns held Rice to 33 percent shooting.
● No. 8 Notre Dame 93, Furman 61: In South Bend, Ind., Kyle McAlarney scored 32 points and Ryan Ayers had a career-high 19 points to lead Notre Dame to its school-record 39th straight home win.
Notre Dame (5-1) was playing without leading scorer and rebounder Luke Harangody, who has pneumonia.
No. 9 Gonzaga 83, No. 12 Tennessee 74: In Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Steven Gray scored 19 points, Matt Bouldin added 17 and Gonzaga won the Old Spice Classic.
Tennessee out-rebounded Gonzaga 50-26 but shot 36 percent and had 21 turnovers.
● No. 17 Florida 86, UMKC 65: In Orlando, Fla., Alex Tyus scored 25 points and reserve Chandler Parsons added 17 to help Florida (5-1) overcome a slow start.
● No. 21 Georgetown 75, Maryland 48: In Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Austin Freeman scored 18 points, and DaJuan Summers had 14 for the Hoyas.

Oregon State 62, Fresno State 54: In Fresno, Calif., Rickey Claitt's 14 points led a balanced offense and the Beavers (1-4) held Fresno State to 24 percent shooting in the second half in giving coach Craig Robinson his first win.
