U.S. Border Patrol agents seized more than a half-ton of marijuana and two weapons in two separate incidents Thursday.
Agents attempted to stop a Ford extended-cab pickup truck about 7 p.m outside Willcox when the driver sped away, said Esmeralda Marroquin, U.S. Border Patrol Tucson Sector's spokeswoman.
Agents spotted the vehicle in the area a few moments later abandoned on the side of the road, said Marroquin.
A total of 54 bundles of marijuana weighing 1,070 pounds was found in the cab and bed of the truck, said Marroquin. The marijuana is estimated to be worth $856,000.
Agents searched the area but were unable to find the truck's occupants.
In a separate incident, agents seized 370 pounds of marijuana and two guns Thursday on Arizona 86 outside of Tucson.
Agents at the Border Patrol checkpoint on Highway 86 saw a vehicle try to drive around the checkpoint by heading south on Coleman Road, said Marroquin.
As agents approached the vehicle, the driver sped off, abandoned the vehicle and fled before agents were able to apprehend him.
Inside the Chevrolet pickup truck, agents found 14 packages of marijuana weighing over 370 pounds, a revolver and a sawed-off shotgun, said Marroquin.
The marijuana is estimated to be worth $298,400. The driver got away.
