Arizona Daily Star Executive Editor Bobbie Jo Buel has been tapped as the new leader of a national journalism group, a position in which she hopes to bring together “ideas that work” in American newsrooms.
Buel’s election as president of the Associated Press Managing Editors Association, the organization of newspaper editors served by The Associated Press, comes as papers nationwide are facing declining advertising revenue and circulation.
Buel said APME can better support the mission of newspapers — helping citizens “understand our responsibility to one another” and making connections in the communities they serve.
As president, Buel will supervise meetings of the association and the APME board, which consults with the AP on its news coverage and services to newspaper members.
