MARANA
1 A 2006 Kia Sedona valued at $9,000 was reported stolen at 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at CVS Pharmacy, 3785 W. Ina Road. The owner said he went into the store to get a few items and left his van's engine running. He said he saw a man using the pay phone in front of the store. He said as soon as he stepped inside the store, the man got into his van and drove away. According to the report, the man was apprehended a short time later on North Sandario Road. He was arrested and charged with suspicion of auto theft and booked into Pima County jail.
2 Vandalism was reported at 3:32 p.m. Aug. 16 near West Ina Road and North Meredith Boulevard. A man told police the following: He pulled into the drive-through at a nearby restaurant in front of another driver. After he received his food order, he turned north on Thornydale Road. The other driver pulled up beside him at a red light at North Thornydale and West Ina roads. The driver threw two drinks at his car. One drink hit the top and hood of his vehicle. The second drink went inside an open window and spilled inside the car. He followed the vehicle east on Ina Road. The driver pulled into a parking lot and he followed. The driver got out of his vehicle and tried to hit him through the open window of his car. The man drove away.
3 Burglary was reported at 7:40 a.m. Aug. 15 at a house under construction in the 4100 block of West Butterfly Mountain Road. A construction worker told police someone pried open the dog door. Two television sets valued at $1,700 were among the items stolen.
4 A suspicious vehicle was reported at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 13 near North Sandario and West Grier roads. A woman told police the following: A man driving a van offered her a ride three times when she was walking home from work at 1 p.m. She refused each time and told him to leave her alone. The man had a beer bottle and appeared to be intoxicated. Police searched the area but did not find the man.
PIMA COUNTY
5 A man was arrested and charged with suspicion of theft at 11:01 a.m. Aug. 15 at Sauce, 7117 N. Oracle Road. Deputies found the man sitting at a bench near a fountain at the shopping center. He was drinking a beer from a paper bag and playing with a salt and pepper shaker from the restaurant. He was also charged with suspicion of drinking in public and booked into Pima County jail.
6 A woman was arrested and charged with suspicion of criminal trespassing at 9:13 a.m. Aug. 15 at Camden View apartments, 11 E. Orange Grove Road. A resident told deputies a strange woman had locked herself in his bathroom and was talking to the fixtures. The rear sliding-glass door was unlocked, and he said he did not remember locking it. The woman was incoherent and crying when she came out of the bathroom. Police confiscated a hypodermic needle, a metal spoon and an empty plastic bag that had been stuffed down the bathtub drain. She was also arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and booked into Pima County jail.
7 Vandalism was reported at 8:47 a.m. Aug. 15 at Nanini Library, 7300 N. Shannon Road. The head custodian told deputies someone had been using feces to write swastikas and numbers on the walls in the men's bathroom for the prior 10 days. He said an outside contractor had to be hired — at $2,000 per visit — because the custodians refused to clean the bathroom after the incidents.
ORO VALLEY
8 Theft was reported at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 18 in the 200 block of East Calle Zafiro. A resident told police she went outside to walk her dog. She said her dog went around the corner to the carport and began barking loudly. She told police she noticed the lights were on inside her car and saw a man running away from the carport. The woman's daughter told police someone rifled through the inside of the car and left a can of pepper spray on the front seat. A compact-disc case containing 100 discs was taken.
9 A 62-year-old man was arrested on two outstanding warrants from Pima County for disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing at 8:23 a.m. Aug. 15 at Casa de la Luz Hospice, 400 W. Magee Road. An employee said the homeless man was sitting at a patio table intended for employees. He said the man became irate and yelled when the employee tried to talk to him. A records check revealed the warrants and he was booked into Pima County jail.
10 A 49-year-old man was cited on suspicion of having a stolen license plate at 11:25 a.m. Aug. 11 on North Oracle Road near North First Avenue. He told police he pulled off the road because his car was overheating. A records check revealed he had a stolen license plate on his car. He told police he found the license plate on the ground at his apartment complex. He said he knew it was wrong but he could not pay his bills. He was also cited on suspicion of having expired registration and driving without insurance. He was released.
