What's new
● The Pima County Public Library's summer reading programs for kids and adults will kick off next Thursday and run through July 19. Here's a breakdown of the three programs by age group:
For kids through the fifth grade: In the "Catch the Reading Bug" program, participants can read on their own or to one another, or be read to. They can pick up a free Catch the Reading Bug game card, which will help them keep track of how many hours they've read, at any branch library. There are lots of prizes: For every six hours they read, children receive Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum passes and other prizes (while supplies last). Kids who read 24 hours by July 19 will get a reading certificate and a ticket for four to the Sidewinders baseball game on July 27. Kids who read an extra six hours get a free pass to Breakers Water Park and a free paperback.
For 12- to 18-year-olds, or kids in grades 6-12: The "Midsummer Night's Read" program offers kids prizes and gift coupons for every 10 hours they read.
For readers 18 and older: The adult summer reading program's theme is "Metamorphosis." In this program, participants can get a free Metamorphosis notebook at any branch, and list, rate and review books online. They set their own reading goals (the library suggests learning about a new hobby or reading more to your kids). If they meet that goal before July 19 they'll earn a credit slip from Bookmans.
For more on the summer reading program, call your local branch or 791-4010, or visit the Web site www.library.pima.gov.
